Detox Treatments

Why detox your body? Because of the myriad of chemicals we are exposed to on a daily basis that is in our food supply, water, and the air we breath. Many people also ingest toxic chemicals from taking medicine, using alcohol and tobacco, or illicit drugs. Millions of pounds of industrial chemicals are dumped into public sewage storage. Millions more are released into the ground and discharged into surface waters and into the atmosphere. Our food supply has chemicals, artificial colors and flavors, also shampoos, lotions, toothpaste, cleansers, artificial fragrances. Our bodies are bombarded daily with chemicals.

When the body is on overload then the manifestation of dis-ease begins: headache, muscle and joint pain, fatigue, irritability, depression, mental confusion, gastrointestinal tract irregularities, cardiovascular irregularities, allergic reactions, and hives to name a few. With more toxic overload, more serious conditions emerge.

Chemicals in our environment affect the body in many ways. The intestinal barrier is a natural barrier, as are the lungs and skin for protection. The major detox organs are the liver, kidney and intestinal tract. Unfortunately, with the bombardment of chemicals, the intestinal natural barrier breaks down due to our modern day refined diet, exposure to chemicals, stress, medications etc. Leaky-gut syndrome is a term used to describe gastro-intestinal barrier breakdown. This breakdown causes more pathogens to enter the blood stream overtaxing the immune response with a net loss of lymphoid tissue, which fights bacteria and toxins. There are many reasons for leaky-gut, or intestinal permeability such as an upset in the intestinal flora due to overgrowth of Candida, an opportunistic yeast, high carbohydrate, yeast (in breads) and high sugar diets that feeds the yeast, drugs such as ibuprofen and aspirin, inadequate digestion of foods, coffee, alcohol and processed chemicals and additives in foods.

What can be done to help detox and protect our bodies? At Chelation Medical Center, detoxification is an important part of our treatment plan. Colon, liver and kidney cleanses are first recommended. If constipation is present, we recommend buffered vitamin C in addition on a dose related basis. A stool analysis is done to see what pathogenic bacteria or overgrowth of yeast may be present. An intestinal permeability test is done if leaky-gut is suspected. A urine collection is done to check for heavy metals which is often an underlying problem with many diseases. A chemical panel is done to check for kidney and liver function. Dietary intake is looked at and diet teaching is done with supplements recommended.

Generally, because of the lack of minerals in the soil and the way foods are processed, everyone should be on supplements. The kind of supplements taken that actually reach the cellular level to do its job is important.
No matter what stage of dis-ease you may be in (from chronic fatigue and headaches to cardiovascular, diabetes and cancer) we believe it is possible to recover when the right steps are taken toward good health.

We look forward to seeing you soon. Call 207-657-4325 for an appointment.
